The King & Laima High School Expresses Their Gratitude

Jackson Mukunya, the Principal of the King & Laima High School for Girls in Mabek Village, Warrap State, South Sudan, had done all he could to educate his pupils in the basics of computer usage.  That’s saying a lot, considering he had no computers.  For three years his senior students took a computer class each fall that relied on computer textbooks alone to teach with.  No actual computers were available.  Indeed, in his optimism Jackson had even designated a “Computer Lab” on campus, but with nothing but second-hand textbooks on hand.

In late 2023 Splendonor was able to facilitate the donation of 28 slightly used laptop computers by St. Anthony’s Catholic School, in Yonkers New York.  The generosity of St. Anthony’s allowed Splendonor to collect the laptops, clean and prepare them, and fund their shipment to South Sudan.

Because computers are sensitive to temperature extremes and excessive moisture,  these laptops had to be shipped by air (a three day trip), rather than by sea (two months at best).  So shipping 28 laptops to South Sudan properly requires careful planning and deep pockets.  Splendonor came through, and even prepared a training video to help the faculty at the King & Laima High School easily implement this new equipment.

When the computers arrived, Jackson was elated; he finally had his computers for his students.  He immediately wrote a letter of gratitude to St. Anthony’s School in Yonkers.   And his Computer Lab finally had a purpose.
